He missed the boat that sailed away
To the promised land of hope and joy
He longed to see that distant shore
Where he could live his dreams and more
He did not listen to his friends
Who urged him to stay and learn
He thought he knew the way to go
He had a compass and a plan
He jumped the wall and dove into the sea
He swam with all his strength and will
He did not fear the waves or sharks
He did not mind the cold or dark
He said to himself, "I have to get there"
He did not ask for help or guidance
He did not trust in God's good plan
He did not seek His face or hand
He swam for hours, but made no progress
He grew more weary, but saw no land
He felt his life was slipping away
He wished he had another way
Meanwhile, his school had noticed his absence
They searched for him with care and love
They found him floating in the sea
They rescued him with grace and mercy
They brought him back to safety and health
They taught him of God's love and truth
They showed him how to follow His ways
They helped him find his peace and rest
He learned to trust in God with all his heart
And lean not on his own understanding
He learned to acknowledge Him in all his ways
And He made his paths straight
He learned to hear His voice behind him
Saying, "This is the way; walk in it"
He learned to let His light and truth
Lead him to His holy hill
He learned to wait on God for His timing
And His perfect will for his life
He learned to be content with what he had
And rejoice in His presence and gifts
He realized that the promised land
Was not a place, but a person
He realized that the true joy
Was not in what he saw, but in whom he knew
He realized that God was his guide
And his rock, and his salvation
He realized that God was his dream
And his hope, and his destination
